Motye, phönikisch-karthagischer Handelsstützpunkt auf der Insel Mozia vor der Westküste Siziliens. Motya wurde wahrscheinlich im 8. Jahrhundert v. Chr. angelegt; im frühen 6. Jahrhundert wurde eine Befestigungsmauer um die ganze Insel geführt und im Norden wenig später ein Verbindungsdamm zum Festland aufgeschüttet. Im Nordteil lagen die Opferstätte (Tophet) und Nekropolen sowie ein monumentaler Tempel der Göttin Tanit, von dem Reste des Fundaments und Mauerwerk sowie einzelne Mosaiken erhalten sind; hinter dem Südtor ein kleiner Hafen (»Kothon«) mit Docks. 397 v. Chr. durch Dionysios I., den Älteren, von Syrakus zerstört, woraufhin die Karthager Lilybaion, das heutige Marsala gründeten. Motya ist wichtig als Fundort punischer Stelen und Vasen; auch Reste einer Purpurfärberei (ab 7. Jahrhundert v. Chr.). Funde im Museum von Motya sowie in den Museen von Palermo und Marsala.
